We revisited a frquently addressed topic from many members the subject being file associations. I am sure that at some time we have all receved a cryptic message to tell us that a file cannot be opened and asking us to say which program we wish to use. This is because your computer maintains alist of programs associated with the three or four letter suffix for all files. If there is no association we are asked to supply one. Tochange or nominate which program to use we can right click on the file and select Open With or we can in Windows XP use explore as shown below.
Select Tools and Folder options as shown.
Select the File Types tab
This will display the following screen.
Select the three or four letter suffix and either change the default or select from programs on your computer.
If you are unsure which program to use you can enter the suffix in your search engine on the Internet to find which program to use.
As always things have changed in Vista and Windows 7 and it is a little easier
Simply go to Control Panel and select Programs and you will see the following screen. Select Default Programs
It is then possible to change r select the program required.
