An interesting opening to this mornings session thanks to Geoff Handley and his cat Twiny. Thank you Geoff for something different.
Following this Andreas demonstrated how to post messages on our new forum. Members were told about the ideas behind this forum and were asked to post any questions or information on the forum for the benefit of al members of the club. It is very much hoped that this will become a means of communicating problems, ideas and information outside of our meetings on a Saturday morning.
A number of members were having problems with a message refernce Virtual memory getting low and were worried about this message. An explanation was given about virtual memory and how to increase this.
To find out more and for instructions on how to change the size simply type in Virtual memory in the search box in Help and follow the instructions.
Typing in Virtual memory in your search engine will also give lots of information about this feature
What is Virtual memory?
Virtual memory is an extension of your computer's physical memory (memory chips or RAMs). In order to be able to run multiple programs at once, the computer looks for areas of RAM that have not been used recently and copy them onto the hard disk into so called page files. This frees up space in the RAM to load the new application.
The hard drive (virtual memory) is much slower than actual memory chips. When you don't have enough RAM, the operating system has to constantly swap information back and forth between RAM and the hard disk. This is called thrashing, and it can make your computer feel incredibly slow.
A short talk reference malicious software was given and a web site with details of the top 25 malicious software programs was viewed and this can be seen at:
