Could anyone advise what state the computer can be left in if it is desired to access the computer from a remote point.
For example if I were in the UK and wished to log on to my computer it will be necessary to leave the computer and internet server switched on obviously BUT could the computer be left in either Monitor off, Stand-by, Hibernation or hard disk switched off?
My present settings are - Turn off monitor after 3 mins. Turn off hard disks after 5 mins. System standby after 15 mins and System hibernates after 20 min.
If those settings are left as they are now could I still access the computer remotely?
Remote access is not enabled at the moment as I have not required this facility before. I think John covered this subject some time ago but a refresher would be appreciated if the answers are too long or complex for this forum.
Regards Barry.

Hi Barry! For Security reasons you should not leave your computer unattended. If you need to access files from abroad then copy your files to an external hard disk and take it with you.

Hello Andreas,
Thanks for information, I had assumed that I could log on remotely via a password or such and was a bit miffed when I could find no useful help in windows search.
I can't think of any reason I would want to connect to my comp whilst away but thought it may be useful to know.
Regards.

hey Barry, it´s me again! I just had to dig into this subject some more! Ok, Windows remote desktop only works on a local network. What you are looking for is another program that John mentioned a while ago. It´s called LOGmeIn here is the link! secure.logmein.com/us/home.aspxwhen your computer goes to sleep, logmein will wake it up!

Hello Andreas,
Thanks for the information, I remember John doing a presentation on remote access but couldn't locate my notes however, I do recall it now you mentioned log me in.
I have looked at the site but am undecided whether to use the programme or not but at least I have the info now thanks.
Regards.
